'Hip Hop Nutcracker' Coming to Washington Heights' United Palace
The show, which combines hip hop dance with a classic holiday score, will hold two performances at Washington Heights' United Palace.
WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — The 'Hip Hop Nutcracker' is returning to New York City this year, and Washington Heights will be the only place to see it. The show will run twice at the United Palace on Saturday Dec. 3, according to the theater's website.
The New Jersey Performing Arts Center production combines hip hop dance and the music of Tchaikovsky's holiday ballet and features 12 dancers, a DJ and a violinist. The show's aim is to "bring the traditional Nutcracker story to life with a contemporary urban twist," according to the United Palace website. Kurtis Blow will also grace the performance with a rap intro.
The United Palace will host two performances of the show on the same day. A matinee performance will start at 2 p.m. and an evening show will start at 7 p.m., according to the United Palace. Tickets can be purchased online.
