INWOOD, NY — The neighborhood's CTown grocery store is offering free mobile orders for seniors and has set up a separate register for them to use in the morning, the store confirmed with Patch.

The grocery chain's location at 4918 Broadway, near West 207th Street, announced earlier this week that it would start doing phone delivery orders on Wednesday and waive the usual $4 fee for senior citizens. The mobile orders are available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The store also started a "senior citizen register" on Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 8 a.m. to help seniors shop more easily.

"Sorry I couldn't do this sooner, we have been overwhelmed, and my AMAZING staff has been sacrificing so much," store owner Mike Saab said in a post that has been circulating on Facebook.

Older adults and those with preexisting conditions are especially vulnerable to the new coronavirus, according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention.

Lawmakers and residents have also reported seniors struggling to cope with long lines and crowds in grocery stores, where supplies has been running low or selling out across New York.

Eleven city residents had died from the pandemic as of Wednesday evening.

CTown is the latest grocer to offer a version of "senior only" hours. Park Slope's Key Foods, Manhattan grocery store chain Morton Williams, Stop and Shop locations and Whole Foods have all started offering special hours for seniors to shop.

The mobile orders at CTown can be accessed by calling the store at 212-567-4881 and asking for Ana. The normal fee for phone orders is $4 and there is a $25 minimum.
