Man Charged With Cane Attack On 90-Year-Old In Inwood, Police Say
A man is facing charges for assaulting a 90-year-old man with a cane on a busy stretch of Broadway, police told Patch.

INWOOD, NY — A 19-year-old man is facing charges for assaulting an elderly man with a cane in Inwood, police told Patch.
Saul Nunez, a resident of the Bronx, has been charged with two counts of second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said. Nunez is accused of attacking a 90-year-old man, seemingly at random, in Inwood on Friday evening.
Nunez approached the victim around 5:55 p.m. Friday on Broadway between Academy and West 204th streets, police said. Nunez kicked the elderly man's shopping cart and the struck him over the head with a cane, police told Patch. Bystanders quickly intervened and chased Nunez away from the victim, police said.

The victim suffered lacerations to his ear and head and was taken to an area hospital in serious but stable condition, police told Patch.
Nunez was arrested on Saturday, police said. The 19-year-old is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, according to court records.

The NYPD release a video of the assault, which shows Nunez approach the victim on a busy sidewalk. Nunez and the victim were walking down the street in opposite directions before the assault, according to the video. When Nunez kicks the victim's cart it attracts the attention of a bystander who rushed to the defense of the elderly man, according to the video.
