Wash Heights Org, Businesses Team Up For Virtual Bookclub

The Community League of the Heights is leading a virtual reading from a well-known children's author this weekend.

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, NY — The local organization Community League of the Heights (CLOTH) is helping to host a virtual book club this weekend with two Washington Heights bookstores.

Shanon Morris, the author of the children's book "MC Veggie Fresh Rocks the Mic," will deliver a virtual reading Saturday at 4:30 p.m. You can sign up for the reading here.

The first five people to register for the event will get a free copy of Morris' book.

Memphis Washington, the Youth Programming Manager at Word Up: Community Bookshop/Libreria, will host the event in partnership with Sister's Uptown Bookstore and the Dance Project of Washington Heights.

Morris will read from her popular children's story about a hip-hop loving girl who competes against her classmates in a competition to eat healthy food.

As custom in many of the Community League of the Heights' events, there will also be a featured Washington Heights artist and business. Painter Leon McCutcheon will be the featured artist for Saturday's event, and Italian restaurant Aqua Marina will be the featured business.

Aqua Marina is located at 4060 Broadway near West 171st Street.

CLOTH is a "community development corporation dedicated to building equitable, prosperous, and healthy northern Manhattan neighborhoods," according to its Facebook.
