Asian Woman Attacked For Not Wearing Mask In West Village: Police
A group of people attacked an Asian woman on the subway at West 4th Street for not wearing a mask, according to police.
WEST VILLAGE, NY — Police are looking for a group of people that attacked an Asian woman recently for not wearing a face mask at the West 4th train station, according to the New York Police Department.
The attack took place on Dec. 17 at 2:45 p.m. on a southbound A train at West 4th Street and the Avenue of the Americas.
The group of six approached the maskless woman and began yelling at her about not wearing a face covering while riding the train, according to police.

Police said the attack is being investigated as a hate crime because members of the group made anti-Asian remarks at her related to the coronavirus.
The yelling quickly escalated into a physical attack, as the group punched the woman multiple times in the face before running away, according to police.

The woman was left in pain with bruises, but refused medical attention, according to police.
The NYPD is looking to speak with four women and two men in connection to the altercation.
Police released photos on Saturday of some of the people wanted in connection to the attack.
