Greenwich Village Suffers 63 Coronavirus Deaths, Data Shows
The death toll is up to six times less than other neighborhoods. Low-income NYers and people of color have been hardest hit by the virus.

GREENWICH VILLAGE, MANHATTAN — Greenwich Village has lost 63 people to the coronavirus crisis, according to data released for the first time by the city's Health Department this week.
The long-awaited breakdown of coronavirus fatalities by zip code released Monday revealed that 63 people have died of the virus in the three zip codes that include parts of Greenwich Village. The data also included death rates, which calculates the number of fatalities per 100,000 people.
Here's how the numbers break down by zip code:

The Health Department's data found the virus running rampant in mostly poor neighborhoods and among people of color, largely in the outer boroughs.

Black and Latino New Yorkers continue to die at about twice the rate of white New Yorkers, when adjusted for age, data show.
The death rate per 100,000 people is 212.79 for Hispanic New Yorkers, 204.79 for Black New Yorkers and 102.94 for white New Yorkers, data show.
The city also listed the 10013 zip code as Greenwich Village-SoHo, though it largely includes Hudson Square and only a small part of SoHo. There were 18 coronavirus deaths in that zip code.
