Man Attempts To Break Into 3 West Village Houses In 1 Hour: NYPD

The burglar was only successful in one of his attempts, getting stopped by homeowners in the other two.

WEST VILLAGE, NY — A burglar attempted to break into three buildings on July 28 in the West Village, according to police.

Two of the burglary attempts were unsuccessful, but he was able to steal a woman's purse in the third attempt.

All three of the attempts took place in a little under an hour.

Here are the details for the three incidents, according to police:

Incident One: At 11:35 a.m. on July 28, the burglar tried to get inside a residential building near Jones Street and Bleecker Street by pushing-in on a window screen. However, the man was confronted at the window by the homeowner, and he fled down the fire escape.

Incident Two: At 12:15 p.m. on July 28, the burglar hopped the fence of a residential building near West 12th Street and West 4th Street, before knocking on a 28-year-old woman's door. He motioned for the woman to let him in, but she refused and the man fled in an unknown direction.

Incident Three: At 12:30 p.m. on July 28, the burglar entered a woman's apartment through an unlocked front door near West 12th Street and West 4th Street. The burglar took the woman's purse, which contained $40, apple headphones, and credit cards. The same day he attempted to make purchases with the credit card at a Target in Flatbush, Brooklyn.

Police describe the individual as a Black male with sunglasses, last seen wearing a blue surgical mask, black baseball cap, a black shirt, blue jeans, and black and white sneakers.

The incidents took place on July 28, but the police released the burglar's information and picture on Monday.
