CHELSEA, MANHATTAN — A man slashed a woman in the face on Monday for not having a conversation with him in the 23rd Street subway station, police said.

The man came up to the 45-year-old woman near the turnstiles at the 23rd Street and Eighth Avenue stop around 9 p.m. He tried to engage the woman in conversation and, when she declined, took out a sharp object and slashed her across the face, police said.

The woman was taken to Bellevue Hospital with a laceration on her left cheek, police said. She is in stable condition.
