WEST VILLAGE, MANHATTAN — Two men who stole someone's wallet in the back of a cab went on a $4,000 shopping spree in SoHo with their credit cards, police said.

The two men forced their way into a cab near Jane Street and Washington Street that a 23-year-old man was already in just before 3 a.m. on Sunday, police said.

Once inside, they told the driver to start driving and demanded the 23-year-old hand over his wallet while pressing an "unknown hard object" against the passenger's body, police said.

The man handed over his wallet and the two thieves fled from the taxi with it, police said.

Police said the two men used credit cards in the stolen wallet to buy about $4,000 worth of items in the SoHo area.
