2 Westhampton Beach High Seniors Receive Perfect Scores On ACT Tests

Less than 0.5 percent of those taking the test receive a perfect score, the district says.

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — Two Westhampton Beach High School seniors have made their hometown proud — they earned perfect scores on the ACT college entrance exams, the district said.

According to the Westhampton Beach Union Free School District, Megan Sitzmann and Gavin Vander Schaaf are among less than 0.5 percent of ACT test takers to score a perfect 36 on the multiple-choice test. The current average score is 21.

Vander Schaaf was recently recognized as a semifinalist in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program as a result of his high scores on the qualifying exam. He is also an AP Scholar with Distinction, co-president of his school’s Interact Club, a member of his school’s Youth to Youth executive board and a singer in the chamber choir. He intends to study secondary education in college.

Sitzmann is an AP Scholar with Distinction and a member of her school’s National Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society. She is vice president of her school’s chamber singers and serves as captain of the Westhampton Beach Junior Ambulance. She plans to study biology on a pre-med track in college.
