WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — After five years, the Lidl supermarket location will be closing in Westhampton Beach.
According to a statement sent to Patch by a Lidl US spokesperson: "Lidl US has made the decision to close its Westhampton Beach store on October 11, 2026. The store will remain open to customers through that date."
The statement went on: "We appreciate the contributions of our Westhampton Beach employees and are committed to supporting them throughout this transition, including offering each a position at another Lidl US location."
No official announcement has been made regarding a new potential supermarket in the space, but speculation has been rampant— with some expressing their hopes for a Trader Joe's on social media, going so far as to post a "fake" newspaper article, with a doctored photo of the space and Trader Joe's sign in the online hoax, according to 27east on Instagram.
"We are actively looking at hundreds of neighborhoods across the country as we hope to open more new neighborhood stores each year," a representative for Trader Joe's told Patch. "At this time, we do not have a location confirmed in Westhampton Beach. "
Some residents have cited unofficial sources online, saying that a Holiday Farms would be opening. But a Holiday Farms representative told Patch Tuesday that they could "neither confirm nor deny" that rumor.
The closure comes after Citarella opened in Westhampton Beach in April.
And the news also comes just days after word broke that King Kullen stores across Long Island had been acquired by Giunta's Meat Farms.
Westhampton Beach shoppers were upset after finding themselves without a supermarket, when Best Way closed its doors — and it was months before Lidl opened at the spot.
