Art Gallery at the Quogue Library October Exhibit: Shadowplay, Mixed Media by Michael Yurick
Michael Yurick has based his Shadowplay series on the idea of capturing images within a fleeting moment of time. “When
the sun is not too high and positioned at a desired angle a figure is
posed. At that moment the elongated and distorted cast is captured”,
explains Mr. Yurick. The artist then constructs a photographic montage of his subject, giving each completed work a personality of its own. His
mixed media constructions are combined with relief elements, which
contribute to the layering effect and add another dimension of space,
movement and
light. Mr.
Yurick will also be displaying his “Rising Sky” series of abstracted
landscapes and his wood sculptures, which also explore his idea of
capturing the elongated and distorted figure represented by a shadow. Michael
Yurick has been in numerous solo and group exhibitions since he started
showing his art in galleries in New York City in 1990. Over
time, his painting segued into print-making and graphic design merged
with photography, as he explored concept, technique and medium. Art Gallery Committee members Christina Kepner, Lulie Morrisey and Judy McDermott will chair this show. The exhibit will be on display from September 30 to October 29th
