Community Coming Together to Help Man, Just 22, Battling Rare Cancer

He was diagnosed just after Thanksgiving and can't work, with expenses mounting, the organizer of a fundraising page said.

WESTHAMPTON, NY — The community is opening its hearts to help a Westhampton man who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of testicular cancer.

He is just 22 years old.

A GoFundMe page, "Cristian Ospina," created by Ashlina Marie, has raised $2,186 of its $10,000 goal so far.

"Shortly after Thanksgiving, Cristian was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of testicular cancer that has spread to his abdomen and both of his lungs," Ashlina wrote. "Due to the diagnosis and how fast this has spread, he needs to start chemotherapy right away, which has not left him much time to prepare for something like this."

Cristian, she said, is unable to work, and, she said, "expenses such as rent, food, and other bills do not stop when you are diagnosed with cancer."

Even the smallest of donations will be "immensely appreciated," she said. "I am going to be doing anything in my power to get us through this difficult time. I can only work weekend shifts right now, which only does so much. We are not the kind of people that like to ask for help so please forgive me, but it has come to a point where we have to humble ourselves and ask for help. Again, even the smallest of donations will be beyond greatly appreciated. Thank you to anyone who is taking the time to read this, to spread the word, and to donate. We love you all, God bless."
