CELEBRATING THE NEW HOME OF THE QUOGUE HISTORICAL SOCIETY, A SIGNIFICANT MILESTONE

Artists' Reception: Saturday, February 4th from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. All are welcome.

The Quogue Historical Society opened its new headquarters building, the Pond House at 114 Jessup Avenue, during the summer of 2011.  This enabled the Society to centralize in one location its extensive collection of historic documents, photographs, publications and artifacts, which had formerly been housed in the Library, the Village Hall and other places in the Village.

The Quogue Historical Society was first organized in 1947 as a committee of the Quogue Library and was reorganized as a separate entity in 1977 by a group of Quogue residents (including the recently deceased Pat Shuttleworth) who were strongly committed to promoting research and interest in the history of the Village of Quogue.  It has gathered an impressive collection of documents, photographs, publications and artifacts, and is currently engaged in organizing, archiving and assuring the preservation of this collection at its new headquarters building.

The Society also runs the 1822 Schoolhouse Museum complex, located on the grounds of the Quogue Library.  In addition, the Society sponsors exhibitions and presentations, and has published books and pamphlets on topics of historical interest (for example, The Hurricane of 1938, Old Houses of Quogue), and acts as an advocate for the preservation of historic structures and sites in the Village. Additionally, the Historical Society co-sponsors the Children’s Art Program and conducts the annual Quogue Art Show, a popular event held each summer on the Library grounds.
