WESTHAMPTON, NY — A fire broke out in a home on Dune Road Friday, the Westhampton Beach Fire Department said.
The structure fire was reported in the 800 block of Dune Road at 8:46 a.m.; the alarm had been called in by a Westhampton Dunes constable who spotted smoke coming from the bayside home while on routine patrol, officials said.
The constable advised Westhampton Beach Fire Department Chief Darryl Schunk that there was a working fire; the chief immediately activated the department’s mutual aid pre-plan, officials said.

Chief Schunk and Second Assistant Chief Jeff Wachenfeld were the first volunteers at the scene and reported heavy smoke coming from the ground floor and garage, officials said.
Firefighters were able to gain access to the unoccupied home through the garage door and firefighters soon had water on the fire, which was under control in about 15 minutes, police said.

Crews had to work for another hour searching for any possible fire extension, and, at about 10:15 a.m., the scene was turned over to the Suffolk County fire marshal; the cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.
There were no reported injuries, officials said.
The Westhampton Beach Fire Department responded with two engines and a tower truck. Five other departments supplied mutual aid: Eastport sent an engine, East Quogue a tower truck, and Quogue, an engine. East Moriches sent a rapid intervention team, and the Flanders Fire Department sent a standby crew to the Westhampton Beach Fire Department headquarters. The Westhampton War Memorial Ambulance and the East Moriches Ambulance were also at the scene, as were the Westhampton Dunes and Westhampton Beach Village police departments, officials said.
