Hampton Bays Alum Published In 'Major' Scientific Journal
"We are so thrilled to see one of our Hampton Bays students excelling in the scientific world."

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — Hampton Bays High School's Class of 2018 valedictorian Sydney Caldwell is making her hometown proud: She recently published her first peer-reviewed article in a major scientific journal, “Frontiers in Immunology."
According to the Hampton Bay Union Free School District, the journal article, written by Caldwell and nine of her peers at the University of Vermont, focuses on their research associated with multiple sclerosis and how p38 MAP kinase signaling in microglia plays a sex-specific protective role in CNS autoimmunity and regulates microglial transcriptional states.
While still at Hampton Bays High School, Sydney studied cancer cells as a participant in the school’s science research program. She garnered a third-place honor in the category of transitional medicine at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair in 2018, the district said.
