LI Man Dies, Woman Injured In House Fire: Police

A female resident was able to escape the fire Sunday night, police say.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — A man died and a woman was injured in a tragic house fire Sunday night in Hampton Bays, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, a report came in about 9:55 p.m. about a possible electrical fire on Rolling Hill Road. Patrol officers responded and found heavy smoke and fire coming from the residence, police said.

While a female resident was able to escape the home, a man was still inside; he was extricated and taken to the hospital, police said. Despite all attempts at life-saving measures, Gregory Konesky, 70, of Hampton Bays, was pronounced deceased at the hospital, police said.

The female resident was also taken to the hospital for evaluation, police said.

The Hampton Bays Fire Department, Southampton Village Fire Department, East Quogue Fire Department, Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance and Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance responded to the scene, police said. Southampton Town fire marshals and detectives and the Suffolk County Police Department's arson squad also responded to assist with the investigation, police said.
