Remsenburg Homeowner Finds Burglar In The Basement: PD

The man is facing a felony charge, police say.

REMSENBURG, NY — A Remsenburg man found a burglar in his basement Friday, police said.

According to Southampton Town police, the incident took place a 2:14 p.m.; authorities received a 911 call about the burglary in progress.

Officers responded and spoke to the homeowner, who reported arriving home and seeing a male at the bottom of the basement steps, police said. When he was confronted and asked why he was there, the man stated he would call his boss, police said.

He left the residence and fled in a vehicle, police said.

Detectives investigated, and the man was subsequently located by the Southampton Town Police Department's community response unit, police said.

Louis Zangla, 36, of Coram, was arrested and charged with second-degree burglary, a felony; and criminal possession of burglary tools, a misdemeanor, police said.

He was processed and held overnight for arraignment in Southampton Town Justice Court, police said.
