Do you think family fun nights help kids embrace science, math and learning?

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY —Kids and their families engaged in a night of learning and fun recently in Westhampton Beach.
Westhampton Beach Elementary School held a "Family Makerspace Night" on Feb. 6 as a way of inspiring students to embrace science, technology, engineering and math, the district said.
"During the evening, students and their families participated in a variety of STEM activities designed by library media specialist Joy Campagna, first-grade teacher Lynne Marshall and art teacher Jeannine Ryan," the district said.

Students and their families worked together on challenges such as turning a cardboard box into something useful, building a structure out of marshmallows and spaghetti, and designing a house for the three little pigs. Students also worked with Legos, Keva Planks, Tinkertoys, marble runs, STEM kits and Geoboards.
“This collaborative learning adventure provided hands-on and creative ways for students to design, experiment, build and invent,” said Campagna.
