EAST END, NY — A woman is reaching out for help for her sister, who was badly injured in a dog attack.

A GoFundMe page, "Help Elizabeth With Her Medical Bills," was created by Rebecca and Adam Martin for her sister Elizabeth Cutaia; the two women grew up in East Quogue, where their mother taught at the elementary school for years, she said.

Now, Elizabeth lives in John's Island, South Carolina, but her roots on the East End run deep, she said.

"I'm raising funds to help her with the medical bills she recently accrued after being viscously attacked by a dog," Rebecca wrote. "Elizabeth is the sweetest, kindest person I have ever known."

Her sister, she said, adopted a dog in South Carolina, wanting to give him "the love and care it hadn't ever had," she said. "Things had been going well, then one night when she got out of bed, she went to pet him, and he just attacked. There was blood everywhere, her nose was broken, and there's a gash down the side of her face, along with other minor lacerations. 911 was called and she was rushed to the hospital."

Elizabeth, the mother of three children, 13, 10, and 4, is "an incredibly caring person," Rebecca said.

She had just started a new job in childcare, but her insurance doesn't begin until October, Rebecca said. All of the medical expenses, including the cost of the ambulance, are mounting, her sister said.

"This has taken an unbelievable toll on her both mentally and physically. Any donations you can make, we will be extremely grateful for," Rebecca said.
