Village Police: Manorville Man Faces Felony DWI

Aggravated DWI
Police arrested a 19-year-old Manorville man Saturday for driving drunk with two 15-year-olds in the car, officers said today.

Police stopped Brian Smith Saturday at 1:30 a.m. on Montauk Highway for changing lanes unsafely and having a broken taillight, they said. Officers then discovered he appeared intoxicated, and charged him with aggravated DWI, a felony, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor.
Smith was driving with two 15-year-olds from Westhampton in the car, which resulted in the felony DWI charge under Leandra’s Law, police said.

Smith was arraigned Sunday.
Heroin Found on Driver
Police arrested two Port Jefferson men Tuesday morning after officers discovered they had heroin and a hypodermic needle in the car.
Officers pulled over Victor Cohen, 39, of Port Jefferson for speeding on County Road 104 at around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, police said. Police found that his license had been suspended and that he was under the influence of heroin and possibly marijuana, they said. He also had a hypodermic needle with heroin in it, officers said.
Cohen was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, criminal possession of a controlled substance, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument, all misdemeanors. He was also charged with a violation, unlawful possession of marijuana.
Cohen’s passenger, James Tomasso, 43, of Port Jefferson Station, was charged with seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, police said. He also had heroin.
Unlicensed Operation
Jeanne Dumont, 61, of Wantagh was stopped Friday at 5:47 p.m. on Montauk Highway in Quogue and charged with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor, and failure to comply, a violation. Police tried to stop Dumont for speeding and ignoring a stop sign but she did not heed to their signals to pull over, officers said.
After the arrest, Dumont was transported to Stony Brook University Medical Center for a medical evaluation, because she had a physical ailment, police said. They did not have any further details.
