'Possible Threat' At High School Deemed Non-Credible: Supe

Hampton Bays School Superintendent Lars Clemensen commended the students who came forward to report concerns.

HAMPTON BAYS, NY — During a time when tensions are high regarding school safety, Hampton Bays School Superintendent of Schools Lars Clemensen said a "possible threat" at the high school Tuesday was deemed "non-credible."

Clemensen, in a letter on the district's website, said high school administrators were "notified of a possible threat to the health and safety of our student body" on Tuesday.

The district immediately notified the Southampton Town Police Department, and working hand in hand with police, the district fully investigated the information and deemed the threat to be non-credible, he said.

Clemensen did not disclose what type of threat was posed.

"As you know, recent incidents across the country have brought increased awareness to the safety and security of our schools, and I commend the students who sought the assistance of administrators with their concerns," he said. "We understand how difficult it may be for a child to come forward and report such incidences. I am so proud of these students."

All such incidents are taken very seriously and students are reminded to report any concerns to administrators immediately, Clemensen said.

"As the saying goes, 'See something? Hear something? Say something,'" he said.
