Driver Arrested After Sunrise Highway Crash

A 51-year-old man was high on drugs when he rear-ended a car Friday morning, police say.

EASTPORT, NY – Two people were injured, including a man who was driving while high on drugs, in a crash on Sunrise Highway in Eastport Friday morning, police said.

According to police, Christopher Nahavandi, 51, was driving a 2009 Toyota east on Sunrise Highway near Exit 61 when his car rear-ended a 2001 Nissan at about 11:30 a.m. The Nissan went onto the shoulder, but Nahavandi lost control of his car, which struck a guardrail and then overturned, police said.

Nahavandi, of Hampton Bays, and a person in the other vehicle were transported with non-life threatening injuries to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center. Nahavandi was charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs.
