West Hampton Dunes Trademarks Itself as 'The Beginning'
Mayor Gary Vegliante says he's working to bring positive attention to the village.

summer residents were greeted Memorial Day weekend with two new monuments, declaring the village the 'beginning' of the Hamptons.
The monuments, purchased over two budget cycles for a little over $10,000, said Mayor Gary Vegliante are part of the village's renewed effort to bring a positive feeling to the area.
"We decided that after all the years of bad publicity surrounding our village, it was time to rebrand the community," said Vegliante, referring to and the along with 190 homes.

The new brick monuments, which adorn the village's logo and the words, "The beginning," were designed over the course of two years and Vegliante said the village has trademarked the words, "The beginning."
"I always loved how Montauk has been known as 'The End,'" said Veglinate. "I thought, really, West Hampton Dunes is the beginning of the Hamptons. It's where the fun starts," said Vegliante.

A ceremony to officially unveil the monuments is in the works for June to coincide with a event that will celebrate Westhampton Dune's recent win in the ASPBA's best restored beach contest in which West Hampton Dunes took first place.
The new monuments were not the only changes that greeted summer residents Memorial Day weekend, the village also renamed two roadways, dedicating them to two of the village's founding fathers, who have passed away.
According to Vegliante, Cove's Lane was dedicated during a ceremony on Saturday as Charlie Brown Way and Widgeon Way was dedicated as Bruno's Way for Bruno DiCapite.
"These two guys loved the community. They continued to serve throughout their lives," said Vegliante.
