Westhampton Beach High School Loses Power During Outage

More than 1,750 customers lost power in the Westhampton Beach area lost power Tuesday. Here's why.

WESTHAMPTON BEACH, NY — The message went out on social media Tuesday morning from a student at Westhampton Beach High School who wrote, "All the power just went out in my school. "

According to Westhampton Beach Schools Superintendent Michael Radday, the power at the high school was out for a brief time early Tuesday morning. Everything was soon fully restored, he said, adding that PSEG reported that is was part of a larger power outage of approximately 1700 customers.

PSEG Communications Senior Generalist Jeremy Walsh told Patch that the outage was caused by a transformer that failed, blowing a fuse and causing the breaker to lock out.

Crews were on the scene making repairs, he said, adding that 1,732 customers were restored in 12 minutes, eight customers were restored in just over two hours, and 12 customers directly served by the failed transformer will be restored Tuesday afternoon.
