NY's COVID-19 Cases Rise, Positivity Rate Up More Than 50% In Months: New York's number of new COVID-19 cases continues to creep upward, with Thursday's positivity rate up more than 50 percent in 30 days. According to Gov. Kathy Hochul, as of May 5, the total number of new positive cases stood at 10,251, with a statewide positivity rate 7.53 percent. On April 5, there were 2,611 new cases reported and a statewide positivity rate of 4.77 percent. The numbers reflect an increase of 57.86 percent in 30 days. (Patch)
  3. Buyers of 47-acre Westhampton site eye development: "The sands of time have not been kind to the former site of Westhampton Mining Aggregates. Southampton Town officials are discussing the future of the former sand mine, 27East reported. The land is newly owned by Grant Hendricks and Frank Amicizia, but will need a zoning change for them to take advantage of its potential," a post in The Real Deal said. (The Real Deal)
  4. Dog Needs Help To Live A Pain-Free Life: Shelter: A local animal rescue is fundraising to give a dog the chance at a life without pain. A GoFundMe page, "Help Hatchie Have A Pain-Free Life," was created by Gabrielle Stroup, director of operations for The League. "Hatchie was surrendered to the local emergency vet because his owners could not afford the surgery he needs to live a pain-free life," Stroup wrote. (Patch)
