3 Hospitalized After Barge Malfunction At Fire Island Inlet: USCG

The three members had to be evacuated and suffered from multiple injuries following the incident on Monday evening.

FIRE ISLAND, NY - Three Coast Guard crew members had to be evacuated after suffering from injuries due to a malfunction at a barge in Fire Island Inlet on Monday evening.

According to the Coast Guard, the malfunction with the pump system was reported at Barge Reggie at Station Fire Island at 5 p.m.

The rescue crew aboard a 45-foot response boat arrived on scene at 5:30 p.m.

Two crewmembers were safely transferred from the barge and taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip.

The third crewmember aboard the Barge Reggie was transported by the vessel’s safety officer and was also taken to the hospital.

The crewmembers conditions are currently unknown.

The three members suffered from multiple injuries including a head injury and lacerations.
