• LI Family Stranded In Fire Island Inlet Rescued By Police Hovercraft (patch.com) — A 2-year-old boy from a Copiague family was brought to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip with minor injuries after their boat ran aground in the Fire Island Inlet overnight. Suffolk County Marine Bureau officers used a hovercraft to reach the stranded vessel at low tide and safely transported all four family members to shore.
