UPDATE: 19-Year-Old From West Islip Killed in Crash

The accident occurred at the intersection of Higbie Lane and Union Boulevard Tuesday morning.

A 19-year-old woman from West Islip was killed in a crash in West Islip Tuesday morning, police said.

According to police, Julia Schweers was driving a 2011 Toyota Camry north on Higbie Lane when her vehicle collided with a southbound 2005 Mitsubishi box truck that was attempting to make a left turn onto Union Boulevard at about 5:55 a.m.

Schweers, who graduated from St. John the Baptist High School in 2014, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center where she was pronounced dead, police said.

The driver of the truck, Antonio Reyes, 45, of Perth Amboy, N.J., was not injured.

Both vehicles were impounded for a safety check and the investigating is continuing. No criminal charges have been filed. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Third Squad at 631-854-8352.

St. John the Baptist will hold a prayer service in its chapel from 7-9 p.m. for members of the Class of 2014 “and anyone else who would like to be together to remember Julia Schweers.”
