College Commitment for 21 West Islip Student-Athletes

A total of 21 terrific West Islip High School seniors have committed to play college athletics next fall at the Division I or II level, including baseball player Ray Weber (SUNY Albany); soccer players Katie Bendersky (LIU Post), Jessica Bendetti (Nova Southeastern University), Gianna DeCarlo (Bridgeport University) and Cali Loeffler (University of Delaware); lacrosse players Vanessa Costantino (Syracuse University), Maggie Delli-Pizzi (Adelphi University), Alyssa Gillespie (Adelphi University), Olivia Going (Florida Institute of Technology), James McCorvey (Mercy College), Dan Mottes (Binghamton University), Justin Pape (Manhattan College), Dan Perrone (Mercy College), Emily Piciullo (Jacksonville University), Alex Ponce (Limestone College), CJ Scharf (Manhattan College), Conor Smith (Pennsylvania State University), Chelsea Sorahan (United States Naval Academy), Kristin Sternkopf (University of Mount Olive), Trevor Wills (Quinnipiac University); and soccer and lacrosse player Paige Sherlock (LIU Post).

Donning shirts or sweatshirts adorned with their chosen college logos, the students gathered for an Oct. 27 ceremony at the West Islip Athletic Hall of Fame wall at the high school.

“The large number of West Islip student-athletes to commit to play at the Division I or II level is a credit to the athletes, their parents, their coaches, their teachers and the community,” Athletic Director Tim Horan said. “I’m confident that they’ll continue to represent West Islip and their families with pride and distinction.”
