Long Island Memorial Day Forecast: Hour-by-Hour Odds of Rain

We'll let you know when the rain is expected to end. You may be able to fire up the grill later on Memorial Day after all.

Rain has put a damper on Memorial Day parades and ceremonies across Long Island Monday morning, but it now looks like the afternoon will clear up for some outdoor activities.

A hazardous weather outlook remains in effect for the island, with the National Weather Service warning of the chance of localized flash flooding. The heaviest and most widespread bands of rain are expected to an end by mid to late morning from west to east, the NWS says.

There will be a chance of showers the rest of the day, but the odds of rain are down considerably from earlier forecasts.

Temperatures are now expected to reach the mid-70s across most of the island on Monday. It will be several degrees cooler on the East End.

Memorial Day- Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 11am, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11am. Cloudy, with a high near 73. Southwest wind 9 to 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Monday Night- A chance of showers and thunderstorms. Cloudy, with a low around 63. South wind 5 to 9 mph becoming calm after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Tuesday- A slight chance of showers before 10am. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. Light and variable wind becoming southwest around 6 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
