Long Island Forecast: Heavy Rain, Gusty Winds, Potential Flooding Wednesday

Temperatures will reach the mid-50s on Long Island on Wednesday, but it’s certainly not a day you are going to want to spend much time outside.
A hazardous weather outlook has been issued for all of Long Island with heavy rain along with potentially damaging wind gusts possible Wednesday evening into early Thursday morning.
A wind advisory will be in effect for the island from 6 p.m. Wednesday until 4 a.m. Thursday.

A squall line, a combination of brief torrential downpours and strong winds (with gusts of over 50 mph), will be possible toward midnight.
Widespread coastal flooding along with beach erosion will be also be a concern around times of high tide on Wednesday evening, the NWS says.

Here’s the full forecast:
Wednesday- Periods of rain. High near 55. Northeast wind 9 to 15 mph becoming southeast in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Wednesday Night- Periods of showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce gusty winds. Low around 47. Windy, with a south wind 23 to 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Thursday- A chance of rain, mainly before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 49. Breezy, with a south wind 17 to 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
Thursday Night- A slight chance of showers before 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 32. Breezy, with a southwest wind 17 to 21 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
Friday- Mostly sunny, with a high near 38. Breezy.
