Marina Guard Hailed A Hero For Two Kind Acts In One Day
The local hero was honored for both helping to put out a fire after a car crash and returning a lost wallet in the same day.

TOWN OF ISLIP, NY - Most people don't find time in their day to perform one act of heroism, but one local marina guard was able to perform two in one day. Marina Guard Mark Schoberl was recently hailed a hero after helping two local residents this past summer.
He was recognized during a Town of Islip board meeting held this month.
During his patrol in August, Schoberl came across a two-car crash in West Islip just minutes after it occurred. After spotting the crash, which caused one of the cars to burst into flames, he quickly jumped in to help.

He assisted in securing the scene and extinguishing flames with a fire extinguisher, helping to prevent a potentially tragic situation from occurring.
Then just a few hours later while continuing his patrols, Schoberl once again got the chance to be a good Samaritan.

After stopping at the Sayville Marina, he was approached by a patron who told Schoberl and a fellow guard that a woman’s wallet had been left behind near the bathhouse. Schoberl and his colleague then f0ound the owner and returned the wallet.
To honor his heroism, town supervisor Angie Carpenter and town board members presented Schoberl with a Certificate of Appreciation, at the suggestion of the wallet's owner, who called the supervisor's office to express their gratitude.
