Obituary: Pasquale (Pat) ​Caligiuri​, Formerly of West Islip, Dies at 91

Visitation will take place on Friday.

Died: December 31, 2016

Visitation: Friday, January 6 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Fredrick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home on 1225 Montauk Higheay in West Islip.

Service: Saturday, January 7 starting at 11:30 a.m. at the St. Patrick's R.C. Church on 9 North Clinton Avenue in Bay Shore.

Obituary: Pasquale (Pat) Caligiuri, formerly of West Islip, died peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, Dec. 31. He was 91.

Caligiuri was born in Italy on October 15, 1925 to Domenik and Rosina Caligiuri. He immigrated to the United States in 1930.

He grew up in Brooklyn with his two younger sisters, the late Dorie and Ada.

Caligiuri enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served for 3 years in the Pacific on a landing ship as a navigator. He then went to Hunter College in under the G.I. bill receiving a B.A. in Economics in 1950.

Soon after graduating, he began a long career with the Social Security Administration rising to the top executive position of Associate Commissioner.

In 1954 Caligiuri married Rita Mary Garrettson and together they raised 5 children in West Islip.

Rita Mary passed away in 1970 and Caligiuri married Bernadette Brady in 1974 who had 4 children.

They moved south to Maryland and then to Florida where they gave birth to a son in 1981.

Caligiuri became an entrepreneur in Florida, owning and operating 6 Midas Muffler shops, several insurance offices and buying and selling real estate.

He worked well into his 80’s.

His wife Bernadette passed away in December 2015.

Caligiuri was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather and he lived for his family. He enjoyed boating, and skiing with his family over many years.

He is survived by 7 sons, Gary, Michael, Joseph, Frank, Harry, Jay and Patrick and 3 daughters; Patricia, Katie and Coleen.

In addition, Caligiuri is also survived by his sister, Ada, 21 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
