Opportunity to Celebrate Breast Cancer Survivors, Commemorate Those Lost

During breast cancer awareness month, it’s important to celebrate the breast cancer survivors in our lives and commemorate those who lost their battle with breast cancer.

Southside Hospital is offering people an opportunity to do that by purchasing a pink butterfly on which they can write a loved one’s name and have it featured on the hospital campus.

For Lisa Finnegan, a member of the community relations team at Southside Hospital and a breast cancer survivor, it meant a lot to her that a co-worker, Edward Fraser, director of community relations for the Eastern region of the North Shore-LIJ Health System, purchased a butterfly in her honor.

“It was such a sweet gesture,” Ms. Finnegan said. “And it was a reminder, because I’ve come so far from being a breast cancer patient. It’s nice to be able to mark my triumph over the disease.”

The butterflies are selling for $20 and proceeds will go to the Islip Breast Cancer Coalition.
