
A person was struck and killed by a Long Island Rail Road train in Great River Friday afternoon.
LIRR spokesman Sal Arena said the pedestrian was trespassing when they “fell from the platform” at the Great River station at about 4:45 p.m. and was struck by a westbound non-passenger train.
No other details on the incident were released. MTA Police are on the scene investigating.

Service on the LIRR’s Montauk Branch was suspended in both directions, but has now been restored with residual delays.

Eastbound Montauk Branch service, with the exception of Great River Station, is restored with residual delays of up to 60 minutes after an unauthorized person on the tracks being struck by a non-passenger train in Great River. Buses will replace westbound train service and Great River Station-only. Eastbound customers for Great River transfer in Islip for bus service.

The 4:30PM train from Hunterspoint Ave. due Montauk at 7:34PM is operating 28 minutes late after being held at Hicksville due to an unauthorized person on the tracks who was struck by a non-passenger train in Great River.
The 4:28PM train from Long Island City due Patchogue at 6:14PM has been canceled at Jamaica due to a train striking an unathorized person on the tracks near Great River. Customers will be accommodated by the 5:32PM at Jamaica to Speonk with added stops at Mineola and Hicksville.
The 4:06PM train from Penn due Montauk at 6:38PM is operating 39 minutes late due to an unauthorized person on the tracks being struck by a non-passenger train at Great River.
The 4:30PM train from Hunterspoint Ave. due Montauk at 7:34PM is being delayed at Hicksville due to an unauthorized person on the tracks being struck by a non-passenger train at Great River. Buses have been ordered and are expected to be on scene by approximately 6:15PM.
The 5:10PM train from Babylon due Speonk at 6:10PM is being held prior to departure at Babylon due to an unauthorized person on the tracks being struck by a non-passenger train at Great River.
The 6:44PM train from Babylon due Patchogue at 7:14PM has been canceled due to an unauthorized person on the tracks being struck by a non-passenger train at Great River. Customers will be accommodated by the 6:17PM train from Jamaica to Montauk with an added Babylon stop.
