PSEG to Start Reliability Project in West Islip This Month

Crews will be working to strengthening a key electric circuit in the area this month.

WEST ISLIP, NY - West Islip resident may see utility crews along their streets as PSEG Long Island has scheduled a FEMA reliability project in the area.

Crews will be working to strengthening a key electric circuit in order to working to better improve the reliability of the energy grid in the Town of Islip, specifically West Islip.

The work will last a total of four months beginning in March. Work will include replacing existing wires, installing new and more durable poles, and installing or replacing switching equipment to help reduce the number of customers affected by an outage.

The route will cover a total of 3.25 miles along an electric main line circuit. PSEG Long Island crews will be working on the following streets in the Town of Islip and the Village of Babylon:

  • Higbie Lane between Hunter Avenue and Sunrise Highway
  • Higbie Lane between Henry Street and Kurzon Road
  • Kurzon Road between Higbie Lane and Dogwood Road
  • Dogwood Road between Kurzon Road and Paumanake Ave nue
  • Paumanake Avenue between Dogwood Road and Carnation Road
  • Carnation Road between Paumanake Avenue and Foxglove Road
  • Gerek Avenue between Higbie Lane and Udall Road
  • Udall Road between Gerek Avenue and Paumanake Avenue
  • Paprocki Avenue between Higbie Lane and West Islip Boulevard
  • West Islip Boulevard between Paprocki Avenue and Sandra Avenue
  • Higbie Lane between Paprocki Avenue and Prospect Avenue
  • Right-of-way between dead-end of Cedar Street and dead-end of Howard Street along E Donald Conroy golf course
  • Howard Street between William Street and dead-end

  • Higbie Lane between Henry Avenue and Independence Avenue
  • Paprocki Avenue between Higbie Lane and Chestnut Place

Crews will generally work between Monday and Saturday from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with limited evening and Sunday work.

According to PSEG Long Island, resident should anticipate some "localized, intentional, short-duration power outages" related to this project. All affected customers will be notified in advance of any power outage.

“Increasing the number of FEMA projects in the Town of Islip will provide greater reliability to even more of our customers in the area and will allow us to continue on our mission to be the best-in-class electric utility our customers deserve,” John O’Connell, PSEG Long Island vice president of transmission and distribution operations said.
