Do you feel heart palpitations? Are you sweaty? Have some tremors? If so, you may have hypoglycemia and should be tested by a physician for it.
Hypoglycemia is caused by low blood sugar and is often the result of diabetes medications that may have lowered a person’s blood sugar too much, explains Robert Courgi, MD, endocrinologist at Southside Hospital. Hypoglycemia can also occur in people not taking these medications. More serious symptoms can include seizures.
“Early recognition of hypoglycemia and rapid treatment can prevent adverse reactions,” said Dr. Courgi. . “The best way to avoid spikes and dips of blood glucose levels is by consistently eating right and checking your sugars. The best kind of diet for people with hypoglycemia includes small frequent meals high in fiber.”
