St. John the Baptist Celebrates their Advanced Placement Scholars

WEST ISLIP, NY-- St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School is proud to announce that 56 students have earned AP Scholar awards in recognition of their exceptional achievement on AP exams during the 2014-2015 school year. “Outstanding students, outstanding results” stated Mr. Donald Kachuba, Director of Guidance at St. John’s.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program (AP) provides willing and academically prepared students with the opportunity to take rigorous college-level courses while still in high school and to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. This past school year 77% of St. John’s students who participate in AP classes scored a 3 or better on the AP exams that they attempted (Exams are graded on a scale from zero to five).This is well above the New York State average of 66% and the Global average of 60%.

Eight students at St. John’s qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and scores of three or higher on five or more of these exams. Twenty-three students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of three or higher on four or more of these exams. Twenty-eight students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Exams with scores of three or higher.

Most four-year colleges in the United States provide credit and/or advanced placement for qualifying exam scores. “We are very proud of our AP award recipients. This recognition shows how truly dedicated they are to academics. It is also a testament to the commitment of our faculty who devote themselves to the academic success of our students” stated Mr. Matthew Artigas, Assistant Principal of Instruction and Curriculum.
