WEST ISLIP, NY - This project idea began in 2012. Mrs. Janet Garvey, a parent of SJB graduate Alanna Garvey ‘13, had the idea and knew her husband, John Garvey, had the skills and resources. He wanted to make it a student-driven project and solicited interested students who wished to learn the stained glass foil method.
This project was a perfect complement to the newly renovated gymnasium at SJB, that included a large wooden cross that was made and used in prior years during prayer assemblies and masses. The plain windows on both sides of the large cross did not add anything special to the cross and all agreed that two stained glass windows in their place, that mimicked the school’s chapel windows, would be perfect.

It truly was a work of love and dedication to the task. “They are more beautiful than I even imagined they could be!” said principal Nan Doherty. “We are grateful for this gift and will remember these students and the Garvey family each time we enter our gymnasium.”
