Teen Struck, Killed by Car in Brentwood

The 17-year-old was hit when he got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage from a minor accident, police say.

A 17-year-old was struck and killed by a car Tuesday morning in Brentwood when he got out of his vehicle to inspect the damage from a minor accident in which the other vehicle involved fled the scene, police said.

According to police, Anil John, of Islip, apparently pulled off the roadway of Crooked Hill Road, about 200 feet south of G Road, following the accident. John exited his 2011 Hyundai Sonata and was then struck by a southbound 2009 Ford.

John was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford, 81-year-old Thomas Stapleton, of East Northport, was transported by Brentwood Legion Ambulance to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore for observation.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing.
