West Islip Firefighters Respond to Vehicle in Bay
No one was inside the SUV when it apparently plunged in the water Tuesday morning.
From the West Islip Fire Department Facebook page:
This morning at 06:06 hours, the West Islip Fire Department was activated by Suffolk County FireCom for a vehicle in the water at the end of Pace Drive South. Upon arrival by Chief of Department George Baxter, a partially submerged vehicle was located approx. 25 yards off shore. It was unknown if the vehicle was occupied. The WIFD dive team immediately placed two rescue divers in the water and determined that the vehicle was unoccupied. Assisted by divers from the Bay Shore Fire Department and a heavy wrecker from Bruno's Truck and Auto Repair, the vehicle was removed. Special thank you to the Bay Shore Fire Department for their assistance and an excellent job done by the operator from Bruno's Truck and Auto Repair removing the water logged vehicle from the canal.
