West Islip High School Announces Valedictorian, Salutatorian
The two students were recognized for the outstanding academic achievements.

West Islip High School recently announced the valedictorian and salutatorian for the 2016-2017 academic year.
Madeleine Gaffney was named this year's valedictorian.
Gaffney is a member of the school’s National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, English Honor Society and Principal’s List, and was named Student of the Month for science.

She competes on the varsity kickline team and plays piccolo in West Islip’s wind ensemble.
This fall, she will attend Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, pursuing a five-year physician’s assistant program.

“I intend to enter the medical field and hope to be successful in saving lives and making a difference,” she said.
Jack Duffy was named this year's salutatorian.
Duffy is a member of the National Honor Society, Foreign Language Honor Society, English Honor Society, and was named Student of the Month for both math and science.
He performs with the school’s mixed chorus and is a member of the varsity winter and spring track teams.
Duffy will attend the State University of New York at Binghamton, majoring in engineering.
