West Islip’s Oquenock Hosts Special Traffic Safety Event

WEST ISLIP, NY - From West Islip School District: West Islip’s Oquenock Elementary School was selected to host the Every Child Travels Safely event on May 8, funded by the New York State PTA with a grant from the governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. Students rode their bicycles freely through a course in the school parking lot. The West Islip Junior Fire Department checked bike tires and helmets, while crossing guards taught students how to cross with their bicycles on busy roads. Students were even able to visit the inside of an ambulance, fire truck and school bus.
