West Islip School Budget Passes

The votes are in. The absentee ballots were counted and the community approved the 2020-2021 school budget.

WEST ISLIP, NY — Residents within the West Islip School District boundaries voted to approve the 2020-21 school budget by a margin of 4,559 votes to 1,768 .

Residents voted on the district's proposed $124,406,746 spending plan for the school year, a 1.20 percent decrease from the current budget. To fund the increase, the district proposed a tax levy of $87,223,610 up 2.01 percent from the current year's.

This year, constituents voted by absentee ballot due to the coronavirus.

In addition, two trustees were elected. Challenger Anthony Tussie received the most votes at 4,092. The second seat went to incumbent Ronald Maginniss who received 3,039 votes. Incumbent Paul Michaluk was beat out after receiving 2,895 votes.
