ARTS PARTNERS CHALLENGE GRANTS
Two grants totaling $4,100

Copland House, Inc. and Hillcrest Elementary School – The Dot and the Line
Copland House will bring its program Playing with Numbers:  Musical Adventures in Math to Hillside Elementary School in March 2014.  The overall project includes two performances at the School during the school day (with 200 students per grade in attendance at each performance).  In addition to the two performances, Copland House will lead a pre-concert activity for each grade, tied to its math curriculum, as well as a post-concert opportunity to “get to know and play” the instruments (including a variety of particularly colorful non-traditional percussion instruments) with the musicians.

Kristen Linder and Ossining High School – Mural: Pillars of American Music
The project will involve three groups of students in grades 10-12 who are enrolled in a Painting Class and an Advanced Placement Studio class. The art teachers will work with a history teacher and develop interdisciplinary lessons focused on the history of American music. Based on their learning during their painting, studio and orchestra classes, the students will develop a vision for the mural based on the pillars of American music: classical, jazz, folk and world music.  The student muralists will design a collage depicting these foundational genres that shaped our American music culture.
