The Food Bank for Westchester, which has been fighting hunger for 25 years, hosted its Annual Golden Scoop Corporate Competition on Friday, May 16 to help raise awareness of hunger and reaffirm its corporate commitment to local hunger-relief efforts. Eleven corporate teams of 20 employees competed against one another to see who could repack the most pounds of beans from bulk quantity to one -pound bags in one hour.
“There was so much energy and team spirit from our participants at this year’s Golden Scoop Competition,” said Ellen Lynch, executive director. “We are so grateful to everyone who participated and proud of our local corporations who get involved in the fight against hunger.”
Participants were: AQR Capital Management, Bunge, Capital One Bank, Chubb, Clarfeld Financial, Curtis Instruments, Pernod Ricard USA, Regeneron, ShopRite, Stop & Shop and Webster Bank.

“Not only at the Golden Scoop Competition, but throughout the whole year we appreciate the generosity of our partners in their corporate giving initiatives,” said Lynch.
At the end of the day, the Capital One Bank team emerged victorious, having packed a whopping 1700 lbs. of beans in one hour. The grand total packed by all teams was a tremendous 15,976 lbs. (or 13,313 meals) of food for the hungry.

Capital One Bank will be presented with the coveted Golden Scoop Award at the Food Bank’s Ninth Annual Hunger Heroes Awards Breakfast, Thursday, June 5 at 8:30 am, at the Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown. They will keep possession of the coveted trophy for one year, until
next year’s competition.
All proceeds generated at the event benefitted the Food Bank, the supply and support center for over 265 hunger-relief member programs throughout Westchester, including food pantries, soup kitchens, senior and child day care centers, shelters and residences.
The Food Bank for Westchester is the backbone of the food distribution system in Westchester. The Food Bank provides 95 percent of all the food given to hungry families, children and seniors as cooked meals or groceries to take home. Last year, the Food Bank distributed more than 7.4 million pounds of food and 6.2 million meals to those hungry or at risk of hunger.
