County Police Say White Plains Man Gave False Report of Being Shot

The incident occurred at about 5:45 a.m. on Monday, and after shooting himself, Gell began walking southbound on the Saw Mill River Parkway.

White Plains resident Juan Gell, 21, was arrested Wednesday on misdemeanor charges of Falsely Reporting an Incident and Obstruction of Governmental Administration for telling county police that he had been shot in robbery that never happened.

Detectives determined that Gell accidentally shot himself in his midsection “when he was standing with a group of people outside a car that had run out of gas” on the Saw Mill River Parkway early Monday morning.

“Gell subsequently concocted a story that he was shot during a robbery and provided county police with a description of a man he said had robbed him,” according to county police.

The incident occurred at about 5:45 a.m., and after shooting himself, he began walking southbound on the parkway near the Cross County Parkway in Yonkers. The people Gell was with had left him, police said, and he was picked up by a private ambulance that was on the parkway at the time and taken to St. John’s Hospital Center in Yonkers.

Gell was transferred to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, and he was arrested Wednesday following his release. He posted a $1,000 bail pending a future court date in Yonkers City Court, police said.
