Developmentally Disabled Adults Allege Discrimination At Halloween Store

The executive director of the nonprofit organization said an employee of the store told the young adults to leave.

WHITE PLAINS, NY — An organization that works with people who have developmental disabilities is saying that a pop-up Halloween store in White Plains kicked out — without reason — a group of its young adults shopping for costumes. Rose Rothe, executive director of Yorktown-based nonprofit SPARC, Inc., said eight young adults and two staff members went into Halloween Headquarters on Mamaroneck Avenue and were told by a store employee to leave.

The young adults, who were not disruptive, were upset and humiliated by the experience, the Journal News said.

A Journal News reporter went to the store but was told no one was available for comment.
