MUSIC OF FREEDOM -- A Community Concert in Honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

A community concert and songfest in honor of  Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday and his timeless message of joining all together  in peace, respect and love will be held at Congregation Kol Ami, 252 Soundview Ave., White Plains, NY. on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 4 p.m.

 There will be performances by many local religious and spiritual groups including:

♦  Choral Prayer and Ceremonial Taiko Drums of Shinnyo-
       En Buddhist Temple         
♦  Mt. Hope A.M.E. Zion Church Inspirational Choir
♦  Choir of Memorial United Methodist Church
♦  A Nasheed performed by Hufsa Khan and Anoosh
       Khan 
♦  The Part-takers of Little Mount Zion Holy Church
♦  Choir of Congregation Kol Ami

Dr. King considered music to be the soul of the Civil Rights movement, embracing protestors in companionship and a common cause. ‘‘The freedom songs are playing a strong and vital role in our struggle,’’ he said. "They give the people new courage and a sense of unity. I think they keep alive a faith, a radiant hope, in the future, particularly in our most trying hours.’’

No admission charge. There will be a free-will offering.

This event is being co-sponsored by the Interfaith Connection and the Westchester Martin Luther King Jr. Institute for Nonviolence.
